The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 574 Yurt "Shark Skin” is one of two outdoors-inspired colorways of the classic lifestyle shoe designed by Salehe Bembury in October 2021. In 2020, Bembury debuted his first New Balance collaboration, the New Balance 2002R “Peace Be the Journey,” an orange-based look inspired by his morning hikes and Arizona’s Antelope Valley. The colorway was one of the most popular collaborations of 2021 and, in 2021, Bembury and New Balance released its second colorway, the 2002R “Water Be the Guide.” Here, the 574 Yurt, a complete remodel by Bembury of the classic 574 model, also takes on an outdoors look with a unique whistle on the heel that promotes safety and survival while hiking. The base of the shoe is constructed from grey mesh. Tonal Shark Skin-colored hairy suede overlays appear on the toe, mid-panel, collar, and heel. A reflective “N” logo is found on both sides. Overall, the look combines elements of heritage New Balance models with contemporary styling. The New Balance 574 was originally released as a trail running shoe in the 1980s, and Salehe Bembury’s take on the model undoubtedly culls inspiration from its original purpose.
