How Do You Register as a Research Analyst?

Registering as a Research Analyst (RA) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is a regulatory requirement under the SEBI (Research Analyst) Regulations, 2014. This registration ensures that individuals or entities offering investment analysis and recommendations to investors follow ethical standards, maintain transparency, and safeguard investor interests.

The first step is to meet the eligibility criteria. The applicant must have a professional qualification such as a post-graduate degree/diploma in finance, commerce, economics, or business management from a recognized institution. • Net worth certificate (for body corporates, ₹25 lakh minimum)

• KYC documents like PAN, Aadhaar, and proof of residence

• A detailed business plan and compliance procedures

• Disclosure of any disciplinary history

The application is filed online through the SEBI Intermediary Portal. After uploading the documents and paying the registration fee (₹5,000 for individuals and ₹50,000 for body corporates), SEBI scrutinizes the application.

SEBI may raise queries, request clarifications, or additional documents. On satisfactory verification, SEBI grants a Certificate of Registration with a unique RA registration number.
